What is the difference between mediation and consulting?
Church conflict can be resolved using mediation when every disputant or faction is willing to meet and seek
new solutions to conflict using the assistance of a neutral mediator from outside the congregation. Mediation
works when all parties earnestly desire reconciliation and agree to follow Biblical instruction. Mediation
involves following a deliberate, sequential process for conflict resolution.
When one party to a church conflict does not desire reconciliation or is unwilling to submit to the authority and
guidance of Scripture, consulting - not mediation - is the best option for resolving the conflict and restoring
congregational health and vitality.
Mediators
Several of the Building Healthy Churches team members are skilled in the area of church conflict mediation.
Contact us by phone, mail or email and we will select the mediator whose skills and background will best
meet the needs of your congregation.
Fees
Mediation fees are $100 per hour for the time spent at your church (reduced fees are available to small
churches). Travel expenses for trips within a few hours of the Kansas City area are charged at the rate of $50
per hour. For destinations farther away from Kansas City, your church should pay expenses for air fare,
rentals, and overnight lodging (if needed).
