Larry has over 30 years experience helping individuals, churches and organizations overcome, conquer,
and resolve personal, relational, and organizational problems. His own life experiences education and
professional career uniquely equips him to help in these areas. Born in a small Missouri town, Larry
spent his early years on a farm and teen years in a public housing project, learning early how his
Christian faith coupled to life provides the key to living successfully.
After working for a metropolitan newspaper and an engineering firm, Larry changed professions. He
earned a bachelors degree in education, taught in public school, and completed the master’s,
specialists, and doctor’s degrees in education and became a high school principal. Leaving education,
he earned a master’s degree in clinical counseling and a PhD in clinical psychology. He established
Diakonos, a Christian out-patient counseling center and was a consultant for three in-patient psychiatric
centers.
Larry retired from clinical practice in 2000. In retirement he continues to use his problem-solving skills to
help individuals and churches. One pastor commented, “He came as a stranger in a difficult time for our
church, helped us tremendously, and left a friend.” Others have said, “He loves the Church and is a
pastor’s friend”, and “Larry helped us see the elephant in the room.”
Larry is a consultant for Building Healthy Churches and is an adjunct professor at Midwestern Baptist
Theological Seminary, where he teaches pastoral care and counseling courses. Larry is an author. He
has written "A Marriage-Counseling Guide for Pastors", a structured guide for marriage and pre-maritial
counseling, and has authored several biblically based and clinically sound "how to" counseling protocols
that equip pastors to counsel the addicted, angry, depressed, anxious, and families in distress. He also
has written "A Guide to Creating a Lay Counseling Ministry”, and a guide to create and maintain a healthy
staff.
